What is counselling?

Dig within. Within is the wellspring of Good; and it is always ready to bubble up, if you just dig.
Perhaps you, or someone close to you, would like help because you feel distressed, isolated, helpless or burdened. Or maybe life just doesn't feel 'right' - maybe it's 'not enough'? Counselling provides a safe place to explore your thoughts and feelings. A skilled counsellor will listen and help you understand how past experiences, worries about the future or lack of confidence may be affecting your life. Together you can reflect on how you respond to life events and explore the way you relate to yourself and others. Past and present relationships will be talked about as well as your relationship with the counsellor. Counselling may be concerned with developmental issues, addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insight and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others.

Marcus Aurelius

A counsellor is trained to listen with attention, understanding and the ability to reflect on what you say in a non-judgemental way. Your counsellor will not tell you what to do or give advice, but will help you make your own choices and support you through the process.
